Just before the crossing the causeway leading to Pinellas County’s pristine Belleair Beach, you’ll find the perfect place to grab a coffee and a baguette (or three) for your picnic on the sand. This gem of a spot, tucked away in the corner of a quiet shopping center, offers excellent espresso, pastries, sandwiches, and desserts. Close your eyes, and you would be forgiven for thinking that you’ve been transported to a patisserie in the South of France.
Le Merle prides itself on being a scratch kitchen, and using only the highest quality ingredients. Multiple, personal taste-tests can confirm this (including, authentic “real” butter for spreading on your baguette, which sadly, is an increasingly rare commodity these days).
What to order:
A double-espresso and a pastry should definitely be on your list. For baguette’s, be sure to come after 10am, but not too late because when they’re gone, they’re gone. For a gluten-free option, try the Coffee Cake Muffin which is wonderful, and impossible to tell it was gluten-free.
