Renowned Chef B.K. Park wasn’t going to let a pandemic slow him down. His Michelin star restaurant, Mako, continues to serve the omakase that put it on the map without compromising on quality. I never expected to enjoy the best sushi of my life at a friend’s dining room table in the West Loop, but 2020 has been full of surprises for us all!
What To Order
There is really one one choice you need to make when ordering omakase to go: nigiri or sashimi. I ordered the nigiri box and added on a bottle of the Mako house soy to share with my fellow home diners. We also shared a couple orders of the otoro, which is definitely worth adding on. Ask for a recommendation on sake and you won’t be led astray.
Additional Tips
Order online well in advance. Not only does the restaurant require a 24-hour notice for to-go orders, but the limited slots available each night fill up quickly. Be sure to mention any shellfish allergies when ordering and the staff will wrap those diners’ boxes separately.
The restaurant’s nondescript and small frontage on Lake Street make it hard to spot. Look for the small logo near the door and call when you arrive to pick up your order on foot or by car.
