The Grill At Hacienda Del Sol is as distinguished as the history of the guest ranch itself. The Hacienda with its beautiful setting at the base of the Catalina Foothills was a desert retreat in the early 1990’s for the daughters of elite families who attended the prestigious “ranch school”. In the mid 1940’s, the Hacienda Del Sol guest ranch became a favorite of Hollywood’s elite like Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn along with John Wayne and Clark Gable.
The restaurant features a menu of farm-to-table cuisine using local meats, vegetables, and herbs from the hotel’s own garden. The Grill has captured Wine Spectator’s “Best of” Award of Excellence for 16 years and was twice bestowed the “Award of Ultimate Distinction” from Wine Enthusiast. It features an extensive and eclectic wine list of over 900 labels and 6,000 bottles. In addition, The Grill holds the titles of “Tucson’s Most Romantic Dining”, “Best Dining with a View”, and “Best restaurant For Out-of-Town Guests”.
What to order:
The menu at The Grill At Hacienda Del Sol is not extensive, the items are not trendy but more traditional in preparation. Nevertheless, every dish is well prepared, flavorful, and exceptionally well presented. Starters run the gamut from corn vichyssoise to grilled octopus. Highly recommended is the lamb rack with sweet potato, knob onion, carrot, asparagus, and bing demi. The apple bourbon éclair is the perfect end to a delicious meal.
